Christmas Carols and Songs # 3

FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS CAROL # 48 THE AGE OLD REASON FOR JOY

The Age Old Reason for Joy
Composed by Robin Mayhew

Some know very well the age old story of the birth and life of Christ.
It's hard to believe all that's been narrated in our modern world of light.
Magic stories, Christ ascending
All give some a cause to doubt
But (Amin) faith is the thing you (Dmin) must (Amin) develop
To give you heart and sing it out.
Chorus
Let us sing our praise
On this special day
Young and old as one
Full of love and fun
It's that time of year
To be so full of cheer
One divine birth
And our Saviour is here.
Verse 2
Before He was born the Ten Commandments were known by almost every man.
God gave them to Moses well before to underline His wondrous plan.
But man had stumbled from the path
So God sent his Son.
To give to the world an understanding
Of what is right and what is wrong.
Chorus
Let us sing our praise
On this Christmas day
Young and old as one
Full of love and fun.
It's that time of year
To be so full of cheer
One divine birth
And Jesus is here.
Verse 3
Gather all of your loved ones close around and sing of the joy this Day does bring.
Make friends and wish them all the best and teach them all the words to sing.
Tell your children
And their children
Everything thing you know that's right
For faith and love is born at Christmas
Through God's son Jesus Christ.
Chorus
Let us sing our praise (There's so much to sing about)
On this Christmas day (Makes you want to shout it out)
Young and old as one.(There's so much to celebrate)
Full of love and fun. .(On this very special date)
It's that time of year (Let us make it very clear)
To be so full of cheer (Only joy and never fear)
One divine birth (Happiness and merriment)
And Jesus is here.
Reprise
So there is the age old reason for
This wondrous joy at
Christmas time.

FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS SONG # 45 DRIVING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS

Despite the general awfulness of the Christmas song there are however always exceptions to the rule and I have a short list of personal favorites.
Without exception all my choices not only include the song but the best performer of that song and so in no particular order here is my forty fifth selection.

“Driving Home For Christmas”
Written and Performed by Chris Rea
I'm driving home for christmas
Oh, I can't wait to see those faces
I'm driving home for christmas, yea
Well I'm moving down that line
And it's been so long
But I will be there
I sing this song
To pass the time away
Driving in my car
Driving home for christmas

It's gonna take some time
But I'll get there
Top to toe in tailbacks
Oh, I got red lights on the run
But soon there'll be a three-way
Get my feet on holy ground

So I sing for you
Though you can't hear me
When I get trough
And feel you near me
I am driving home for christmas
Driving home for christmas
With a thousand memories

I take look at the driver next to me
He's just the same
Just the same

Top to toe in tailbacks
Oh, I got red lights on the run
I'm driving home for christmas, yea
Get my feet on holy ground
So I sing for you
Though you can't hear me
When I get trough
And feel you near me
Driving in my car
Driving home for christmas
Driving home for christmas
With a thousand memories

FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS SONG # 46 RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER

Despite the general awfulness of the Christmas song there are however always exceptions to the rule and I have a short list of personal favorites.
Without exception all my choices not only include the song but the best performer of that song and so in no particular order here is my forty sixth selection.

“Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer”
Written by John Marks
Performed by Bing Crosby

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen
Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen,
But do you recall?
The most famous reindeer of all?

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Has a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows.
All of the other reindeer's
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas Eve,
Santa came to say,
Rudolph with your nose so bright,
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?

Then all the reindeer loved him,
As they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the red-nosed Reindeer
You'll go down in history!

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Has a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it,
You would even say it glows,
And all of the other reindeer's
Used to laugh and call him names,
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games,

Then one foggy Christmas Eve,
Santa came to say,
Rudolph with your nose so bright,
Wont you guide my sleigh tonight?

Then all the reindeer loved him,
As they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,
You'll go down in history!

FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS CAROL # 44 STAR OF THE EAST

Star Of The East
Lyrics written by Alfred Hans Zoller
Translation by George Cooper in 1890
Music by Amanda Kennedy in 1883

Star of the East, Oh Bethlehem's star,
Guiding us on to Heaven afar!
Sorrow and grief are lull'd by thy light,
Thou hope of each mortal, in death's lonely night!

Fearless and tranquil, we look up to Thee!
Knowing thou beam'st thro' eternity!
Help us to follow where Thou still dost guide,
Pilgrims of earth so wide.

Star of the East, thou hope of the soul,
While round us here the dark billows roll,
Lead us from sin to glory afar,
Thou star of the East, thou sweet Bethlehem's star.

Star of the East, undimmed by each cloud,
What tho' the storms of grief gather loud?
Faithful and pure thy rays beam to save,
Still bright o'er the cradle, and bright o'er the grave!

Smiles of a Saviour are mirror'd in Thee!
Glimpses of Heaven in thy light we see!
Guide us still onward to that blessed shore,
After earth's toil is o'er!

Star of the East, thou hope of the soul,
While round us here the dark billows roll,
Lead us from sin to glory afar,
Thou star of the East, thou sweet Bethlehem's star.

Oh star that leads to God above!
Whose rays are peace and joy and love!
Watch o'er us still till life hath ceased,
Beam on, bright star, sweet Bethlehem star!
