10-year-old Jesse Armstrong (Jimmy 'Jax' Pinchak) is anxious to help his struggling widowed mom Sara (Gail O'Grady) so he enters a national video contest.

His entry “All I Want for Christmas is a Husband for my Mom” wins the contest which then has unforeseen consequences as Sara is vaulted into the national spotlight and dazzled into accepting a proposal from a wealthy man Roger Nelson (Greg Germann) who she doesn’t love.

Family friend and neighbour Ben Grant (Robert Mailhouse) is the real romantic interest and a suitable father figure for Jesse in this enjoyable Christmas RomCom.

POISONOUS POINSETTIAS

 

Since the early part of the 20^th century a rumour has persisted that Poinsettias are poisonous.

For over eighty years this rumour has continued to circulate because of an alleged incident in 1919 when the two-year-old child of an Army office allegedly died after eating a Poinsettia leaf.

It was never proved by medicine or science and no other incidents have been reported but the rumour persists.

Even if they are not poisonous don’t eat them anyway not at Christmas on any other time.

THE BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIES EVER - MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET

 

There have been two versions of Miracle on 34th Street and both are well worth watching.

The 1947 version starred Maureen O'Hara and John Payne with Edmund Gwenn as Kris Kringle while in 1994 there parts were played by Elizabeth Perkins, Dylan McDermott and Richard Attenborough.

It’s the story of a child brought up by her mother not to believe in Santa Claus however the mother unknowingly employs Kris Kringle to be Santa Claus at Macy’s department store.

Eventually he has to go to trial to prove he is the real Santa.

Apart from being hugely enjoyable films they both have in common the fact that the child stole the show in each case.

Natalie Wood in the original and Mara Wilson in the remake, both were a delight.

THE BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIES EVER - A HOLIDAY ROMANCE

 

This is a lovely story set during the holiday season, when a stern school administrator Cal Peterson (Gerald McRaney) is sent to review Bethlehem School with a view to cutting costs by any means.

He is accompanied by his teenage niece Fern (Alison Pill) who is now in his care and who, unknown to Cal, is brought alive by the music program

Cal and Fern move in with Cal’s father Jake Peterson (Andy Griffith) which provides another sub plot.

Also, Cal despite himself begins to fall for music teacher Lily Waite (Naomi Judd) and following a long review, Cal is forced to conclude that the only way to save the funds is to eliminate the music program.

It is only at the final concert, before Lily must leave her job, the music program is saved by generous donations, and Cal sees Fern perform.

Not a dry eye in the house, wonderful stuff.
