Candle light of beauty
Adorning church and alter
None excluded from Christ’s love
Darkness brightly conquered
Light of Christ illuminating
Everlasting light of life
Candle light of beauty
Adorning church and alter
None excluded from Christ’s love
Darkness brightly conquered
Light of Christ illuminating
Everlasting light of life
Despite the general awfulness of the Christmas song there are however always exceptions to the rule and I have a short list of personal favourites
Without
exception all my choices not only include the song but the best performer of
that song and so in no particular order here is my twenty first selection.
Dominick the Donkey
Written by Ray Allen, Sam Saltzberg and
Wandra Merrell
Performed by Lou Monte
Santa's
got a little friend his name is Dominick.
The cutest little donkey, you never see him kick.
When Santa visits his Paesans with Dominick he'll be.
Because the reindeer cannot climb the hills of Italy.
(Chorus)
Ay,
Jing-a-di-jing hee haw hee haw
It's Dominick the Donkey.
jing-a-di-jing hee haw hee haw.
De Italian Christmas Donkey.
Lalalalalalalalala. lalalalalaladidooda.
Jingle Bells around his feet and presents on da sled.
Hey look at da mayor’s derby, on top of Dominick’s head.
A pair of shoes for Louis and a dress for Josephine.
Da label on de inside says dare made in Brook-a-lee.
(Chorus)
Children sing and clap dare hands and Dominick starts ta dance.
Dey talk Italian to him and he even understands
A young man called Paul
Wanted
to buy a present
For
his new sweetheart Maria
As
a Christmas present
As
they’d not been dating
For
a very long duration
He
decided to purchase
After
careful consideration
A
nice pair of gloves
striking the right note
Not
too romantic or personal
So
the gloves got his vote
Accompanied
by Maria’s sister
He
went to Harrods and bought
A
dainty pair of white gloves
“She
will like these” he thought
Maria’s
sister Susan bought
A
pair of panties for herself
But
during the wrapping
An
error was made on the shelf
The
assistant mixed up
The
gloves and the panties
The
sister got the gloves
And
Maria got the scanties
Without
checking Paul sealed
The
package along with a note
And
sent it to his sweetheart
And
this is what he wrote
Dear Maria, I chose these
As
I noticed my darling
That
you don’t wear any
When
we go out in the evening.
If
not for your sister Susan
I
would have got long ones
The
type with the buttons,
But
Susan wears short ones
That
are easier to remove.
They
are a delicate shade,
But
the shop assistant
where the purchase was made
Showed
me the pair she has
That
she’d been wearing
and were hardly soiled
After
three weeks wearing
I
had her try yours on for me
And
she looked really chic
Even
though they were
Tight
on her a little bit.
She
told me that her pair
Helps
to keep her ring
Clean
and shiny, and in fact
And
this is interesting
Since
she’d begun wearing them.
It
hadn’t needed washing
I
really hope you like them
And
wish I were there with you
To
put them on you Maria
for the first time I really do
As
no doubt many other hands
Will
have touched them
Before
I see you again
Remember
when you remove them
To
blow into them before
Putting
them away and drying
As
they will naturally be
A
little damp from wearing
Just
think how many times
My
lips will kiss them
during the coming year.
I
hope you will wear them
For
me on Friday night
All my love Paul till then
P.S.
The latest style
Which
appears to be growing
Is
to wear them folded down
With
a little fur showing
Three lifelong friends in New York City, Ethan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Isaac (Seth
Rogen) and Chris (Anthony Mackie), have for a decade enjoyed their yearly
Christmas Eve reunion which has been an annual drug and alcohol fuelled night
of debauchery and hilarity.
But
now that they're entering a more passive phase of adulthood, the tradition is
to come to an end, and to make it as memorable as possible, they set out to
find the Nutcracker Ball - the Holy Grail of Christmas parties that they have
never managed to find in ten years of trying.
Jillian
Bell, Lizzy Caplan, Heléne Yorke, Mindy Kaling and Ilana Glazer make up an
excellent supporting cast along with Michael Shannon as Mr Green and James
Franco and Miley Cyrus appear as themselves.
ZITHER CAROL Lyrics written by Sir Malcolm Sargent to Traditional Bohemian Music
Girls
and boys - Leave your toys - Make no noise
Kneel at his crib and worship him
At thy shrine - Child divine - We are thine
Our Savior's here
Chorus:
"Hallelujah" the church bells ring
"Hallelujah" the angels sing
"Hallelujah" from everything
All must draw near
On
that day - Far away - Jesus lay
Angels were watching 'round his head
Holy Child - Mother mild - Undefiled
We sing thy praise
Chorus:
"Hallelujah" the church bells ring
"Hallelujah" the angels sing
"Hallelujah" from everything
Our hearts we raise
Shepherds
came - At the fame - Of thy name
Angels their guide to Bethlehem
In that place - Filled with grace - Saw thy face
Stood at they door
Chorus:
"Hallelujah" the church bells ring
"Hallelujah" the angels sing
"Hallelujah" from everything
Love evermore
Wise
men too - Haste to do - Homage new
Gold, myrrh and frankincence they bring
As 'twas said - Starlight led - To thy bed
Bending their knee
Chorus:
"Hallelujah" the church bells ring
"Hallelujah" the angels sing
"Hallelujah" from everything
Worshipping thee
Oh,
that we - All might be - Good as he
Spotless, with God in unity
Savior dear - Ever near - With us here
Since life began
Chorus:
"Hallelujah" the church bells ring
"Hallelujah" the angels sing
"Hallelujah" from everything
God head made man
Cherubim
- Seraphim - Worship him
Sun, moon and stars proclaim his power
Every day - On our way - we shall say
Hallelujah
Chorus:
"Hallelujah" the church bells ring
"Hallelujah" the angels sing
"Hallelujah" from everything
Hallelujah
Now once more
The
year has turned
The
advent candle
Long
since burned
Hearts
darken
As
we count the cost
And
the season’s spirit
Is
all now lost
But
it need not
All
be dark and gloom
Light
can again
Illuminate
the room
So
here is a philosophy
For
all of us
God
is for life
Not
just for Christmas
It was just twelve months ago
Since
my special wish was made
A
wish you thought so simple
For
which a fortune I'd have paid
And
now it's our first Christmas
In
our first little house
But
I hope the first of many
With
my beautiful new spouse
This
year my wish is simpler still
On
this Christmas day with you
May
our hearts be always filled with love
And
the stockings be filled with you
