Wall Street financier Everett Stone (Dermot Mulroney) returns home for Christmas with his uptight, liberal businesswoman girlfriend Meredith Morton (Sarah Jessica Parker) and introduces her to his eccentric and outgoing family's annual Christmas celebration and immediately feels like a fish out of water.
His
ultra-liberal, anti-conventional, rustic Connecticut family with their
free-spirited way of life doesn’t take to the outsider and Everett doesn’t seem
to be supportive only his brother Ben (Luke Wilson) gives her a chance, and a
weird romance blossoms.
In
desperation she invites her easy-going sister Julie (Claire Danes) for moral
support, but she’s no help at all because she ends up falling for Everett.
So
everything works out in the end but not in the way they first thought.
