Princess Golden Hair is lured to the forest where she is attacked by a witch, Heksa (Agnes Kittelsen) and disappears.

Her mother dies of a broken heart and her father (Anders Baasmo) curses the Christmas Star but searches for the Princess in vain for almost ten years.

As Christmas Approaches Sonja (as Vilde Marie Zeiner) escapes from the house where she is being kept as a slave and hides in the castle where the King is still mourning the loss of his daughter.

The King sends Sonja on a quest to find the Christmas Star and in turn return his daughter, so she sets off on an adventure which includes riding the north wind to see Father Christmas and find the Christmas star.
