THE BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIES EVER – CHRISTMAS MIRACLE IN CAUFIELD, U.S.A. (1977)

This movie is based on the true story of tragedy strikes a small mining community one fateful Christmas Eve in 1951, when a series of explosions strike a mine notorious for its unsafe conditions, and a group of miners become trapped underground after a cave in.

The off duty miners and those who managed to escape, along with family members work desperately to rescue the trapped men before an even larger, more deadly explosion occurs.

Mitchell Ryan, Kurt Russell, Andrew Prine, John Carradine and Barbara Babcock star but Melissa Gilbert steals the show.

FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS SONG # 8 - That’ll Be Christmas

Despite the general awfulness of the Christmas song there are however always exceptions to the rule and I have a short list of personal favorites.

Without exception all my choices not only include the song but the best performer of that song and so in no particular order here is my eighth selection.

“That’ll Be Christmas” written and performed by Thea Gilmore-

Rain falling and a chance of snow
Jonah Louie on the radio
French beer and mistletoe
That'll be Christmas

Cars queueing on the edge of town
Afternoon with the blinds pulled down
It's just the way the deal goes round
That'll be Christmas

I was going to head for high ground
Just forget it all
But the line's busy I can't make that call
Oh no.

Join the others in the bar by ten
Peace and goodwill to men
Me missing you again
That'll be Christmas

A tired waiter in a stupid hat
Muddy boots on the welcome mat
You just can't say no to that

Hot wine and a Christmas tree
The Sound of Music and the family
Faith hope and gluttony
That'll be Christmas

There's a choir of angels
A choir of soaks
And there's drunk relations telling dirty jokes
Oh no

So I'll join the others in the bar by ten
Peace and goodwill to men
Me missing you again
That'll be Christmas

It's gonna be me missing you again

That'll be Christmas
That'll be Christmas

That'll be Christmas

MARTIN LUTHER BLING

There is a legend suggesting that Martin Luther

Who was a sixteenth century religious reformer

And founder of the Protestant church in Germany

Was the first to put candles onto a Christmas tree

It’s said he was walking home one winter’s night

When he noticed the stars were shinning bright

And through the tree’s he saw the twinkling light

And he was so impressed by this majestic sight

When he returned home he set up his Christmas tree

Decorating it with lighted candles for all to see

THE BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIES EVER – BEYOND CHRISTMAS (1940)

In this charming Christmas movie, George Melton (Harry Carey), Allan Chadwick (C. Aubrey Smith) and Michael O'Brien (Charles Winninger), are the heads of a successful engineering firm.

All three are rich beyond measure but are ultimately lonely, so they invite three strangers to dinner on Christmas Eve.

However only two show up, James Houston (Richard Carlson) and Jean Lawrence (Jean Parker), who fall in love and become friends with their three benefactors.

But tragedy strikes when the three men are killed in a plane crash after which they return to their old home as ghosts.

In the months following the accident, although left financially secure, true love between James and Jean encounters some very rough spots and ultimately it’s left to the ghostly O'Brien to help the young couple.

FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS SONG # 7 - Silver Bells

Despite the general awfulness of the Christmas song there are however always exceptions to the rule and I have a short list of personal favorites.

Without exception all my choices not only include the song but the best performer of that song and so in no particular order here is my seventh selection.

“Silver Bells” written by Jay Livingston and Roy Evans and performed by Sir Terry Wogan and Aled Jones

Silver bells, silver bells

It's Christmas time in the city

Ring-a-ling (ring-aling) hear them sing (ting-a-ling)

Soon it will be Christmas day

City sidewalks, busy sidewalks.

Dressed in holiday style

In the air there's a feeling of Christmas

Children laughing, people passing

Meeting smile after smile

And on every street corner you'll hear

Silver bells (silver bells), silver bells (silver bells)

It's Christmas time in the city

Ring-a-ling (ring-aling) hear them sing (hear them sing )

Soon it will be Christmas day

Strings of street lights

Even stop lights

Blink a bright red and green

As the shoppers rush home with their treasures

Hear the snow crunch

See the kids rush

This is Santa's big day

And above all this bustle you'll hear

Silver bells (corner St. Clause)

silver bells (It's busy now because ..)

It's Christmas time in the city

Ring-a-ling (it fills the winters air)

hear them sing (you'll hear it everywhere)

Soon it will be Christmas day

City sidewalks, busy sidewalks.

Dressed in holiday style

In the air there's a feeling of Christmas

Children laughing, people passing

Meeting smile after smile

Very soon it will be X'mas day!

And on every street corner you'll hear

Silver bells (silver bells), silver bells (silver bells)

It's Christmas time in the city

Ring-a-ling (ring-aling) hear them sing (hear them sing )

Soon it will be Christmas day
