E.J. Baxter (Kristin
Chenoweth) has what she considers to be the trifecta of New York perfection,
the perfect job as a PR executive for Lillah Sherwood (Heather Hanson) where
she is the firm’s miracle maker, the perfect apartment; and the perfect man in the
form of her fiancé and co-worker, Noah (Peter Mooney).
But E.J.'s life comes
crashing down around her ears just before Christmas when she is fired from her
job, and finds out that Noah is cheating on her, which not only leads to her
calling off their engagement but changing what were to be their romantic
holiday plans.
After a few months she
realises that the reason she is unable to find a job with a reputable rival PR
firm because no one is willing to cross Lillah so E.J. is forced to accept one
of the two less than perfect jobs offered to her.
The job that she
accepts is from Mayor Bob Baker (Craig Eldridge) and she is to work in
Kalispell, Montana, population 19,000 and located hours from the nearest large
city.
She has a one year
contract working for its tourist board to encourage corporate retreats to the
town but E.J. is a fish out of water in Kalispell, however she finds that there
are some benefits to the antithesis to New York, most specifically that
everyone is so friendly in the small town.
Among the townsfolk,
she makes a positive connection with fly fishing guide, Jason Farrar (Stephen
Huszar) and a negative one with sporting goods store owner Will Albrecht (Josh
Hopkins) who thinks E.J. is pushy and arrogant.
An incident a few
months into her tenure leads to E.J. resolving that the best thing she can
accomplish in her job is to organize a fundraiser to earn money for the
volunteer Search & Rescue to purchase a helicopter to aid their work and
her fundraising plan is a calendar featuring the men of the Search & Rescue
in tasteful, yet partially nude poses.
She thinks that the
calendar will not only highlight the important work of Search & Rescue and
present a good image for anyone coming to the town which would in turn help
towards her end goals of engaging potential corporate clients and promoting
herself so that she can find a better job back in New York.
Jason and Will are two
of the thirteen men of the volunteer team, Jason the biggest booster of the
calendar and Will the biggest opponent to it.
So she has to convince
the other twelve to pose in order to make the calendar a possibility and faces
some trials and tribulations until she brings it to fruition.
But with the calendar complete and her contract nearing its end she has some serious thinking to do and it is apparent her priorities have changed and there is every possibility that she might have a Merry Christmas.
