In 1950 Los Angeles,
the struggling Hoover Street Baptist Church calls Rev. Will Douglas (Hari
Rhodes) of Arkansas to serve as its pastor, with his wife Sarah (Lynn
Hamilton), his mother Bessie (Beah Richards), and his four children, he crosses
the country just before Christmas in his late father's 1941 Ford woody wagon,
which just barely makes the trip to a poor church in California where the
congregation is drifting away and the church itself is scheduled for
demolition.
Will there be a
