In
the year 2035, James Cole (Bruce Willis) is a prisoner of the state, in a world devastated by disease, and he is sent back in time to try and
stop the virus that wiped
out most of the Earth's population, from being
released.
He is initially sent back to 1990, six years too early and is immediately imprisoned in a psychiatric facility where
he meets Dr Kathryn Railly (Madeleine Stowe) and psychiatric
patient Jeffrey Goines (Brad Pitt) who is the mad son of an eminent virologist.
Having
failed to convince the doctor that he is from the future and that the world was
in danger he is returned to the year 2035 before being sent back to 1996 where
he kidnaps Dr. Railly to enlist her help in the quest to find Jeffrey Goines and
his animal rights group called the Army of the Twelve Monkeys.
But
is he the key to the puzzle or just a red herring, and if not him then who?
