After outwitting the Mob following a jewel heist in New York Johnny the Touch Lester (Richard Portnow) escapes to Lake Arrowhead in California where he changes his name to Oscar Golden and opens a toy shop.

8 years later after learning the Mob had tracked him down he had a heart attack and died.

When the will is read, Oscar has left his shop and dog Athena to Samuel Jacobs (Paxton Kubitz), the young son of Sheriff Jacobs (Cuba Gooding Jr.).

The death of the renowned safe cracker and the unknown location of the stolen jewels attract the attention of treasure hunters and criminals including Don Amici (Robert Miano) from New York.

So Samuel, his friend's and Athena have to follow clues and solve riddles to find hidden jewels before the Mob boss and his henchman right under the nose of the FBI.

However everything that can possible go wrong, goes wrong and not only does he waste all their money but he drives a wedge between him and Deb, risking everything he holds dear, until conversations with Rich the Postman (Randy Quaid) and Barry the Bartender (Kristoffer Polaha) put things into perspective.
