THE BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIES EVER – A HOLIDAY BOYFRIEND (2019)

 

Katie (Olivia Dunkley) flies’ home for the holidays after being dumped by her boyfriend again and vows that it is the last Christmas she is going home without a boyfriend.

So in the New Year she starts using a dating app and discusses her progress with her two best friends Valerie and Keiko (Michelle Jubilee Gonzalez and PeiPei Alena Yuan).

However by November she is still looking, after meeting a lot of jerks, so out of frustration she wishes for a holiday boyfriend.

Eventually she makes a deal with Jacob (Matt Merchant) from the ranch where she stables her horse to fill the position, with conditions on both sides, but things don’t go exactly to plan.

Ally (Alex Paxton-Beesley) flies’ home for Christmas to see her family, however at the airport she mistakenly picks up the wrong piece of luggage and as she is technologically dependent on the devices in her bag, she is devastated, she has even lost her phone charger.

She then has to examine the intriguing contents of the luggage which appeared to belong to M. A. Turner, who is apparently an author, but try as she might, she can’t track him down.

On top of that she gets involved with organizing the Snowy Ball with her best friend Lara (Vanessa Jackson) and she keeps running into her ex, Henry (Ian D. Clark), with whom she had a bad breakup.

But there is a surprise in store for everyone.

But if she doesn’t get her own way, will her psychotic behaviour put everything in jeopardy and force her into extreme measures to get her holiday romance.

She is surprised to find that not much has changed in the town despite the passage of time, and her Christmas loving family continues to participate in all of the same old family traditions, wearing ugly Christmas sweaters, singing at the local care center, Christmas baking and all the other festive events.

And it’s while she is participating in all the familia activities, that she is reunited with old flame Will Matthews (James Gaisford), who helps her reconnect with her family and the season and rediscover the beauty of what she had been missing with her family and her hometown.

So Nathan takes the kids on an epic journey through the twelve days of Christmas starting with his mum (Elaine Partnow) in Canada then onto the North Pole via Alaska to get their beloved dog back and reunite the family.

 

(Note of warning, the last ten minutes goes into a global warming narrative which I don’t want to see in a Christmas movie)

THE BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIES EVER – THE ULTIMATE GIFT (2006)

 

After the funeral of Billionaire Oil Tycoon Howard 'Red' Stevens (James Garner) his dysfunctional family all gather at the office of his lawyer, partner and friend Mr. Theophilus Hamilton (Bill Cobbs) and his associate Miss Hastings (Lee Meriwether) to see what was in the will for them.

One by one they came and went from the room with Red’s stinging words still ringing in their ears.

Last but by no means least was Grandson Jason Stevens (Drew Fuller) who had spent most of his adult life as a Trust Fund brat until he was cut off from the family money and had been living off petty crime and begging. 

Jason was singled out for special treatment as Red had every faith that he could redeem himself, so he was assigned twelve apparently simple tasks labelled “gifts” meant to challenge him and set him on a journey of discovery.

But it was meeting Alexia (Ali Hillis) and her terminally ill daughter Emily (Abigail Breslin) that changed his perspective of life and money, and becomes a better man than even his Grandfather expected and received the “Ultimate Gift”

THE BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIES EVER – A CHRISTMAS KAREN (2022)

 

An amusing reworking of Charles Dickens well spun yarn of redemption.

This retelling of the story is about Karen (Michele Simms), an entitled middle-aged woman whose demanding nature has alienated her neighbours and family.

She is a heartless grinch, racist, xenophobe, and homophobe, who hates everyone and everything and is seemingly irredeemable, however after a series of instances displaying her privilege and prejudice, she receives an “intervention” by some unconventional spirits.

Karen is visited in her Florida home on Christmas Eve. by the ghost of her former boss Jackie Morley (Meghan Moroney).

She tells Carol that she has lost sight of the things that are truly important in life and that she will have further visitation to show her the errors of her ways and save her from her own fate.

Her first visitor is Gary, the Ghost of Christmas Past (Rolin E. Alexis), followed by Joy, the Ghost of Christmas Present (Leyla Lawrence) and finally Damon (Lee Karlinsky) Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come.

Between them they open her eyes to her behaviour and show her what she is missing out on and help her discover the true spirit of Christmas and mend the rift between her and her brother Todd (Clint Robinson).

After being dumped by her boyfriend, Susanna Truitt (Megan Park) goes for a drive around the countryside of Saint Simons, Georgia, when she has a flat tyre, and a handsome man named Nate Kenneth (Jonathan Keltz) comes to her rescue and the two are instantly smitten.

After her father suffers a minor heart attack the family Garden Center is left shorthanded so Nate volunteers to help but in reality, he is Prince Nathaniel of Cambria who is on a last vacation before his coronation.

When the truth comes out Nate has to return to Cambria but Susanna and her sister Avery (Kayla Wallace) are invited to visit the kingdom, but for her and the King to be together they must overcome some obstacles in the shape of Lady Ginny (Marlie Collins) and the Queen (Sara Botsford).

It’s up to Nate to prove that the American girl is suitable to be his Royal bride.

THE BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIES EVER – CHRISTMAS AT THE RANCH (2021)

 

Urban power broker Haley Hollis (Laur Allen) faces a career crisis in the City at the same time she is summoned home to Nashville, Tennessee, by her brother, Charles (Archie Kao), just prior to Christmas, in order to save their beloved from imminent repossession by the bank.

She hasn't been back to her family's ranch in years, and she is shocked when she sees her family struggling to keep the ranch going.

After the death of her parents she was raised by her grandmother, Meemaw (Lindsay Wagner), and seeing her struggle she feels compelled to stay and help.

When she is first introduced to ranch hand Kate (Amanda Righetti) sparks fly between them, but not in a good way initially, but they put their differences aside to save the ranch.

Reacquainting herself with the wilderness and the horses softened her heart and spending so much time with Kate she falls in love with the irresistible ranch-hand.

But as the week progresses, things get more and more complicated for both girls, so will their web of lies finally fall apart?

When she meets Prince Leopold (David Witts) there is a palpable mutual attraction much to the annoyance of his fiancé Duchess Catherine (Sophie Vavasseur) and his mother  Queen Gloriana (Sophie Ward).
