An
irascible elderly woman Victoria Brown (Katharine Hepburn) lives alone in a
remote and secluded house with only her daily help Molly and Cloris (Helena
Carroll and Brenda Forbes) for company.
Then
she discovers an escaped convict Mooney Polaski (Ryan O'Neal) hiding in her
attic.
Although
she is initially fearful, she overcomes her fear and lets him stay.
As
the Mayor (Robert Wisden) pressurizes the Sheriff (Henry Beckman) to track
Mooney down, an unlikely bond forms between them as he finds a home, and she
overcomes lonely existence.
