THE BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIES EVER – SNOWBOUND: THE JIM AND JENNIFER STOLPA STORY (1994)

 

Jim and Jennifer Stolpa (Neil Patrick Harris and Kelli Williams) with baby (Clayton Zachary Ahnert) are on a two-thousand-mile journey from Castro Valley, California, to Idaho for a funeral.

But in a severe snowstorm they lose their way and are stranded in an endless wilderness of deep snow only 500 miles into the journey, near the ghost town of Vya, Nevada.

After two days in the car surviving on their meagre supplies and their resourcefulness the young couple leave the vehicle behind and head out on foot to find help.

After days of walking they take shelter in a cave but struggle to keep themselves and their son alive in a frozen terrain.

While awaiting rescue they run out of supplies and realise help isn’t coming so, Jim sets off on a courageous 50-mile walk through the snow to find help and return to save his family.

Also starring Richard Ian Cox, Duncan Fraser, Susan Clark and Michael Gross.
