THE BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIES EVER – CHRISTMAS IN EVERGREEN: THE GIFTS OF TIME (2019)

 

Author of one published novel, New Yorker Katie Connell (Maggie Lawson), is doing freelance work as she struggles for inspiration for book number two.

So, approaching the Christmas season she decides to take a short vacation to experience a little more of life outside of her normal environs which she hopes will make her a better writer.

Her destination is the Northern Vermont town of Evergreen, a town famed for its Christmas passion and very popular with holiday tourists and she is much impressed with what she sees and who.

Namely native Evergreenian Ben Baxter (Paul Greene) with whom she felt an immediate attraction which is not diminished by their subsequent encounters.

However, what starts as a vacation turns into a working holiday when her mother and business magazine editor Patti Connell (Laura Soltis) asks her to write a story for the Christmas edition.

Katie fails to find a business angle so decides to find a story about Evergreen and its Christmas traditions and the search for a long-lost time capsule.

Erik is a handsome millionaire bachelor who runs a charity which organizes millions of dollars’ worth of gifts every Christmas to help the less fortunate and he claims all his donations come courtesy of Santa Claus.

Her boss wants Charity to discover where the money really comes from so they can expose him as a fraud, whereas she comes to want to write a feelgood piece, because although she began as a cynic, she actually learns the true meaning of Christmas and has a newfound belief in the magic of Christmas and falls in love with Erik.

Matt much enjoys the coffee which triggers memories of being back home, so he writes to Audrey to thank her and she adds him to her care package list and the two of them become pen pals.

After a year of exchanging letters in which they bare their souls, their worlds collide for the first time off the written page when he is transferred to the local base shortly before Christmas.

After meeting face to face for the first time they are clearly apprehensive about whether the burgeoning love between kindred spirits revealed in their intimate correspondence will translate into something beyond the written word and wonder if the spirit of the season will help or hinder.
