FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS SONG # 23 - ZAT YOU, SANTA CLAUS?

Despite the general awfulness of the Christmas song there are however always exceptions to the rule and I have a short list of personal favourites

Without exception all my choices not only include the song but the best performer of that song and so in no particular order here is my twenty third selection.

Zat You, Santa Claus?

Written By Jack Fox

Performed By Louis Armstrong

Zat You, Santa Claus?
Gifts I'm preparing for some Christmas sharing,
But I pause because,
Hanging my stocking I can hear a knocking.
Zat you, Santa Claus?
Sure is dark out, ain't the slightest spark out.
Pon my slackened jaw!
Who's there? Who is it stopping for a visit?
Zat you, Santa Claus?
Are you bringing a present for me,
Something pleasantly pleasant for me?
Then it's just what I've been waiting for.
Would you mind slipping it under the door?
Cold winds are howling, or could that be growling?
My legs feel like straws.
My my oh me my, kindly would you reply?
Zat you, Santa Claus?
Hanging the stocking, I can hear a knocking.

Zat you, Santa Claus?
I say, who's there, who is it? Are you stopping for a visit?
Zat you, Santa Claus?
Oh there, Santa, you gave me a scare.
Now stop teasing cause I know you're there.
We don't believe in no goblins today,
But I can't explain why I'm shaking that way.
Bet I can see ole Santa in the keyhole.
I'll get to the cause.
One peek and I'll try there; oh oh, there's an eye there!
Zat you, Santa Claus?
Please, please, pity my knees!
Say that's you, Santa Claus!

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING

It was Christmas Eve closing time, nearly

Where a last minute shopper, frustrated clearly

Was rummaging through the freezer cabinet

At her nearest out of town supermarket

Desperately searching for a frozen turkey

And couldn't find one big enough for her family

Then she saw a young shop assistant pass by

And decided that she would give him a try

"Do these turkeys get any bigger?" she said

Puzzled he replied "No madam, they're dead."

THE SANTA CLAUSE

When I was a child

I believed in Santa Claus

When I got older

I didn’t believe in Santa Claus

When I became a parent

I was Santa Claus

Now I have grandchildren

I look like Santa Claus

THE BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIES EVER – A HOBO'S CHRISTMAS (1987)

Old hobo, Chance Grovner (Barnard Hughes) has spent 25 years of his life on the railroads and riding the rails is the only thing he has known since he walked out on his family.

His only contact with his son Charlie (Gerald McRaney) over the years was the postcards he would send, but his desertion caused a bitter rift with Charlie, who wants nothing to do with his father.

But with Christmas just around the corner Chance arrives in Salt Lake City to surprise his son and wants nothing more than to spend one day with him and his grandchildren Kathy and Bobby (Jamie Sorrentini and Harley Cross) who he has never met.

Charlie is reluctant as he still resents the fact that his father ran out on his family 25 years earlier, but his girlfriend Laurie (Wendy Crewson) persuades him that there is no better time than Christmas to try and heal the wounds left by the past, Charlie is not entirely convinced but gives his father one day with his grandkids, after that, he's expected to leave and never come back.

A CHRISTMAS WISH

On a Christmas Eve at midnight

When I got into bed

I lay upon my pillow

And there beside my head

Was Santa with his trousers off

And this is what he said

Happy Christmas little girl

I’ve unwrapped this gift for you

So take this gift with pleasure

To make your wish come true

Because Santa comes but once a year

And tonight he comes with you

FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS SONG # 22 - STEP INTO CHRISTMAS – THE PUPPINI SISTERS

Despite the general awfulness of the Christmas song there are however always exceptions to the rule and I have a short list of personal favourites

Without exception all my choices not only include the song but the best performer of that song and so in no particular order here is my twenty second selection.

Step Into Christmas

Written by Elton John, Bernie Taupin

Performed By The Puppini Sisters

Welcome to my Christmas song

I'd like to thank you for the years

So I'm sending you this Christmas card

To say it's very nice to have you here

I'd like to sing about all the things

Your eyes and mind can see

So hop aboard the turntable

You gotta hop aboard the turntable

You gotta hop aboard the turntable

You gotta oh, oh, oh, oh

Step into Christmas with me

Step into Christmas, let's do it together

We can watch the snow fall forever and ever

Eat, drink and be merry

Come, come along with me

Step into Christmas, the admission is free

Take care in all you do next year

And keep smiling through the days

If we can help to entertain you

Oh, we will find the ways

So merry Christmas one and all

There's no place I'd rather be

Than asking you if you'd oblige

Than asking, asking you if you'd oblige

Than asking, asking you if you'd oblige

You'll have a oh, oh, oh, oh

Stepping into Christmas with me

Step into Christmas, let's do it together

We can watch the snow fall forever and ever

Eat, drink and be merry

Come, come along with me

Step into Christmas, the admission is free

Welcome to my Christmas song

I'd like to thank you for the year

So I'm sending you this Christmas card

To say it's very nice to have you here

I'd like to sing about all the things

Your eyes and mind can see

So hop aboard the turntable

You gotta hop aboard the turntable

You gotta hop aboard the turntable

You gotta oh, oh, oh, oh

Step into Christmas with me

Step into Christmas, let's do it together

We can watch the snow fall forever and ever

Eat, drink and be merry

Come, come along with me

Step into Christmas, let's do it together

We can watch the snow fall forever and ever

Eat, drink and be merry

Come, come along with me

Step into Christmas, the admission is free

Step into Christmas, let's do it together

Step into Christmas

You gotta step right up, gotta step right in

Step into Christmas with me

SEASONS GREETINGS

Tis the festive season

Of goodwill and reason

For the politically correct

The dithering and the direct

For the clubs and the cliques

And tedious control freaks

For the anal retentive's

And their many representatives

For council house yobs

And the inverted snobs

Those with professional jobs

And intellectual snobs

For the easily offended

And the over complicated

For the vile and the venomous

The overt and the anonymous

Snake in the grass vipers

And Back stabbing snipers

To the tarts and the vicars

And those in disposable knickers

For all poetry scrawlers

And the unpleasant name callers

For the narrowly minded

And those with axes grinded

For the loud minority

And the silent majority

For blondes and brunettes

And all lads and laddettes

Those pierced and tattooed

And the prim and the lewd

For the bright and the bland

And the humble and the grand

For those who are pretentious

And the liberal consensus

Every class hew and breed

Every persuasion and creed

Whether ungifted or artistic

And the mentally arthritic

For the first and the last

And sense of humour bypassed

For those with rhyme and reason

So in the spirit of the season

Now the year is nearly done

Merry Christmas everyone
