8-year-old
Olive Rosenthall (Rosie Darling) is grieving the loss
of her father, when shortly before Christmas she finds a photograph of her
grandmother with a phone number on the back.
So,
she rings the number and speaks to a reclusive woman called Hazel Wilson (Becky Borczon) who is not her grandmother because her
grandmother died before she was born.
However, they form an unlikely bond regardless and then
one day she leaves a note for her mom Claire (Stacey
Ann Turner) and takes the bus to Emmett Idaho.
After finding Olive’s note, Claire and Hazel speak
on the phone, and she agrees to look after her until Claire arrives.
But the next day when they attempt to return home
her car wouldn’t start so to Olive’s delight they had to stay with Hazel.
While waiting to have the car repaired, they meet
Pastor Ian Walker (Casey Elliott) and his adopted niece Winnie (Cosette Turner),
the girls become immediate friends and conspire match Claire and Ian and Hazel
and her childhood sweetheart Gabriel (Bruce Newbold).
So, will they all rediscover the joy of Christmas and enjoy its magic?
