After
the tragic loss of their young son in an accident John Ingram and his wife Rae
(Sam Neill and Nicole Kidman) leave the Christmas
celebrations behind them to spend some time isolated at sea on their yacht,
the Saracen.
In
the middle of the Pacific Ocean, in dead calm, they come across a
drifting schooner, the Orpheus, that appears to be slowly sinking,
and they rescue a man Hughie Warriner (Billy Zane) who rows a dinghy
over to them, claiming he’s the only survivor but is there more to him than
meets the eye.
