On Christmas Eve the little
match girl, Molly (Keshia Knight Pulliam) is trying to sell her
wares with little success when she encounters a Neville Dutton (William Youmans),
a merrymaker on his way home after a night’s revelling.
He is kind and friendly ad buys her a hot chocolate
and after an incident with the vendor they leave in his car.
Neville
takes her home to the grand Dutton Place and introduces
her to his parent Haywood and Frances
(William Daniels and Rue McClanahan) and his sister Lindsay (Robyn Stevan).
His
father just wants to send Molly on her way but Frances has other ideas, and
while she is in the house she has a profound effect on people and with a strike
of a match she heals the wounds of a broken family, bringing estranged son Joseph (Jim Metzler) and his wife Mary-Margaret (Hallie
Foote) back to the family home.
