Guardian angel Rose (Angela Lansbury) goes to visit an orphan named Emily (Noelle E. Parker) who is sick in the hospital and tells her a story about another guardian angel (Dick Van Dyke).

Annabelle Kingsley (Alivia Clark), aka Buttons, from time to time following her
loving parents’ prayer to God to watch over her when she had scarlet
fever as an infant.
When Annabelle is 10,
she and her mother learn that her father William Kingsley (Ioan Gruffudd),
a ship captain, has been lost at sea, then her newly-impoverished mother
Sarah (Julia Burrows) is forced to work in a textile mill and the harsh
conditions lead to her death.
So, Annabelle is an
orphan and is bullied by the other girls until she escapes.
She finds herself
alone, hungry, and cold on Christmas Eve, guided by her guardian angel she
decides the only place she can turn to for safety is the church, and finds
salvation.
