In the lead up to Christmas, successful Chicago investment banker Nick Bellwith (Jesse Metcalfe) is fired for a bad investment decision.
He was expecting to be
made a junior partner, as was his father Sydney (Michael Kopsa), a very successful
international money man, so Nick is obviously hesitant to tell him of his
failure.
One day he is spotted
as he walks past the Star Top Christmas tree lot, owned by an aging warm
hearted widower Clem Marshwell (Clarke Peters) who notices by his body language
that Nick is troubled.
So he offers him a
temporary job, at minimum wage,
assisting with the heavy lifting.
Despite not being a
Christmas person following the death of his mother when he was a child, to his
great surprise he takes a job at the lot, which is where he meets Julie Gibbons
(Autumn Reeser), an astronomy teacher, and her son, Matt (Anthony Bolognese).
As he works the lot,
the once self-centred Nick discovers the joy of helping others and as he spends
more and more time with Julie the Christmas spirit washes over him as he begins
to fall for the star Gazer.
