Left in the care of his mean Aunt Carlotta (Kristen Wiig) an ordinary young boy called Nikolas (Henry Lawfull) escapes her clutches and sets out on a perilous journey to the far north to find his father (Michiel Huisman) who left on a quest for the King (Jim Broadbent) to discover the fabled village of the elves, Elfhelm.
Accompanied
by his loyal pet mouse Miika (Stephen Merchant) and a headstrong reindeer
called Blitzen, who they meet along the way.
After
a long and arduous journey he is rescued by Father Topo (Toby Jones) and his
great, great, granddaughter Little Noosh (Indica Watson) and is shown Elfshelm,
which is now under the control of Mother Vodol (Sally Hawkins) who has banned
all contact with humans.
Nikolas
however soon meets his destiny and wins over Vodol in this endearing alternative
story of the origin of Father Christmas.
